The Big Smoke
Too many choices, too little time. The Big Smoke curates your world.
The New Capital City of Culture, The Big Smoke connects influencers, readers and brands across the country.
Alexandra Tselios launched opinion site, The Big Smoke, in November 2013 with one goal - to provide a digital vehicle for all Australians - from cabbie to QC.
Since launching, The Big Smoke has published over 1,500 exclusive articles, been viewed over 1.5 million times and will be launching in the USA late 2015. Irreverent and balanced for the influencers, mavericks and disrupters that make up this country.
The pool of writers at The Big Smoke are generally not journalists, although some write for a living. These contributors come from all walks of life – comedians, barristers, students, pastors, politicians, business owners – the list is almost endless. We have published pieces by Anthony Albanese, Julian Burnside, John Bell AO, Lord Mayor Clover Moore, Andrew Upton, Derryn Hinch and some of the finest minds this country has to offer.
Our aim? To provide a single platform Australia-wide that acts as a stage for the voicing of a broad range varied, topical and interesting opinions. We wanted to see an opinion site that was completely impartial and balanced, attractive and drew on some of the finest minds in the country – both young and old, emerging and famous.
TBS is also home to exclusive virtual marketplace The Big Smoke Emporium. We wanted to showcase the diverse fabric of small businesses and not-for-profits that fit with the TBS vibe and vision.
